serendipity

Serendipity - the phenomenon of finding valuable or agreeable things without searching for them. Especially when you are trying not to find them. Ours was a serendipitous meeting as I did not want to find someone to fall in love with.

Acidulous

Acidulous - I was reading a book and came across this wonderful word.  It means to be sharp or harsh is taste or manner.  What a delightful way to say someone has a nasty personality and they probably won't even know what you are talking about.

Sanguine

Sanguine - Basically it means bloody or bloodthirsty.  It can also refer to the bright red color - blood red.  It can also refer to a  ruddy complexion.  There is also the old body humor approach to personality - the sanguine type is marked by high color, sturdiness and cheerfulness.  Confident and optimistic people are also referred to and sanguine.  It is an interesting word, and it's roots go back to Middle English from the Latin sanguineus

Epiphany

The word for today is Epiphany I always thought Epiphany referred to the season directly after Christmas - and it is called Epiphany for a reason.  The definition of Epiphany is a sudden perception of an essential truth.   A grasp of reality in a sudden and startling way.  It's sort of like with the light bulb in your head goes off and you suddenly understand what something is or why something is the way it is.  "My epiphany came suddenly when he said he wanted a divorce."

Synoptic

Synoptic - Synoptic means to have a similar view.  Too look at things in a similar way.  It usually refers to the first 3 Gospels of the New Testament - Matthew, Mark and Luke who take a Synoptic - or similar approach to the life of Christ and are referred to as the Synoptic Gospels.  But it could also be used to refer to my friend and I who take a synoptic look at quilting or my husband and I who have a synoptic view of finances.  I'm going to spend the day trying to use Synoptic in my daily speech.
